St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church

Rev. Jermaine D. Covington was born and reared in Warren, Ohio. He is the fourth of five children born to John and Quereda Covington. His calling from God started him preaching at a young age. On November 16, 1997, he preached his trial sermon at Grace A.M.E. Church at the tender age of 16 years old.
Rev. Covington is a 1998 graduate of La Brae High School. After graduating from La Brae High, he enrolled at Wilberforce University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in philosophy and religion. While at Wilberforce, he served in many capacities, including editor of the yearbook, member of Alpha Omega ministries and student manager of the Wilberforce Bookstore. He played a lead role in the reinstatement of the Charter and Chapter of the NAACP on the Wilberforce campus. In addition, he was blessed to serve as a recipient of the America Reads Grant.
In October 2004, Rev. Covington was ordained an Itinerate Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He formerly served as president of the North Ohio Conference YPD for seven consecutive years. He formerly served as the Church Administrator/Assistant Pastor of the Allen Temple AME Church in Cincinnati, Ohio under the tutelage of Rev. Dr. Donald H. Jordan.
Meet Pastor Jermaine D. Covington

He currently serves as the pastor of St. John A.M.E. Church in Columbus, Ohio. He is also a student at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio where he is pursing a Master of Divinity degree. He resides in Westerville, Ohio.
Over two hundred (200) members have been added to the church membership roll since his appointment to St. John AME in November 2005. A number of ministries have been added to the up-building of God’s Kingdom. Some of the ministries new to this congregation are as follows: Young Adult, Dramatic and Visual Arts, Seniors, Sons of St. John and Technology. Additionally, Pastor Covington has appointed a church administrator, youth minister and minister of music.
Pastor Covington is a member of King Solomon Lodge #87 P.H.A. He is the former Master Counselor of Brotherhood Chapter Order of Pythagoreans. However, if you ask Pastor Covington about all his titles and merits, he will tell you, “The thing I cherish the most is being called a child of God.”
